We are wired to seek connection and, from our earliest moments of life, do so with our primary attachment figures. These experiences are stored in our bodies and minds and provide our nervous systems with strategies to meet our needs for proximity, connection and, attachment.
Sometimes these schemas no longer serve our adult selves and we find ourselves 'stuck' and out of balance in our relationships, both with ourselves and our important others. Therapy can identify these ineffective patterns, in our bodies and our minds, and it can re-establish the stability and equilibrium our nervous systems are seeking. We can learn about our nervous systems, have compassion for our attachment wounds and traumas, and, when we do, we can "get closer" to ourselves and others.
Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced. James Baldwin
